A public key is a cryptographic code that allows users to receive cryptocurrencies into their wallets. As its name suggests, public keys are public: anyone can look them up, and users can share them without any security risk.

On the contrary, private keys must be kept safe and secure by the wallet owner. A private key functions as the wallet's password, allowing anyone that has access to it to withdraw funds and sign transactions.
